COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES (COHES)

About COHES

The College of Health Sciences (COHES) was created in 2021 with three departments namely: 

  • Department of Anatomy
  • Department Of Nursing Science
  • Department of Physiology

All Departments are run as a school, materials and academic resources are pooled to give a comprehensive education to the students. The students undergo the curriculum in relevant laboratories needed for their pratical experiments. The laboratories available are for Anatomy, Nursing, Pharmacology and Physiology and are located at the College of Health Sciences Laboratory Complex

In addition to satisfying the general requirements for entry into the University, candidates must satisfy the requirements prescribed by the College for each department.
At least 5 credit level passes in five subjects consisting of English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In addition an acceptable pass in the UTME is required for admission into 100Level.
Expected duration for UTME candidates shall be 4 years
To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Science in Physiology or Anatomy, a student must satisfy the following graduation requirements. (i) A student must register for a minimum of 16 or a maximum of 25 credit units in any one semester, provided that the total credit load does not exceed 50 in a session.
(ii) A student must pass a minimum credit unit of 150 credit for UTME candidates(4 year programme) and 120 credit for D.E candidates (3 year programme) including all compulsory courses prescribed by the Department and the University
(iii) Complete successfully all class work, Industrial attachment, seminars and project.
To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor of Science in Anatomy, a student must satisfy the following graduation requirements. (i) A student must register for a minimum of 16 or a maximum of 25 credit units in any one semester, provided that the total credit load does not exceed 50 in a session.
(ii) A student must pass a minimum credit unit of 150 credit for UTME candidates(4 year programme) and 120 credit for D.E candidates (3 year programme) including all compulsory courses prescribed by the Department and the University
(iii) Complete successfully all class work, Industrial attachment, seminars and project.
To be eligible for the award of the Bachelor’s Degree, a student must satisfy the following requirements for graduation:
(i) The duration of the B.N. Sc Degree course is 5 years for Joint Matriculation Examination Entry candidates and 4 years for Direct Entry candidates. As a professional degree, the B.N.Sc shall not be classified.
(ii) Minimum number of earned credit hours for Graduation shall be 175 Credit Units for 4 year course and 221 Credit Units for 5 year course
(iii) Minimum CGPA for graduation shall be 2.4
(iv) Students must attend 70% Lecture Hours
The class of degree is determined by the student’s CGPA, calculated to two decimal places, at the end of the programme, as follows:
First Class: 4.50 – 5.00
Second Class Upper Division: 3.50 – 4.49
Second Class Lower Division: 2.50 – 3.49
Third Class: 1.40 – 2.39
Pass: 1.0 – 1.49
